How to type E with an accent
Copying above works across platforms. For keyboard or menu entry, use the method for your app.
Windows
Open Character Map from Windows search. Select a font, select the accented letter, then choose Select and Copy. Paste it into your document. This works without a numeric keypad.
Windows instructions ↗Mac
In an app that supports the accent menu, hold the e key and choose the required variant. If it is missing, use Edit → Emoji & Symbols and find the character in Character Viewer. Available accents depend on your input source and app.
Mac instructions ↗Word for Windows
For é, type 00E9, select just those hexadecimal digits, then press Alt + X. Use the Unicode hex value from the code cards for another variant. This is Word’s Unicode conversion, not a numeric-keypad Alt code.
Word for Windows instructions ↗Google Docs
On a computer, open Insert → Symbols → Special characters. Find é using its Unicode value 00E9, or draw it in the search box, then select it. Some interfaces place Special characters directly under Insert. On mobile, copy a letter above and paste it into your document.
Google Docs instructions ↗iPhone
On the onscreen keyboard, touch and hold e, slide to the accented variant, then release. Use Shift for uppercase. If the variant is not offered by your keyboard, copy it from the grid above.
iPhone instructions ↗Android (Gboard)
In Gboard, touch and hold the e key to see accents and other options, then choose your letter. Use Shift for uppercase. Choices depend on the keyboard language; if your variant is absent, copy it above. Other Android keyboards may differ.
Android (Gboard) instructions ↗E accent Unicode & HTML codes
HTML codes are for source code; use the copy buttons for ordinary text. Numeric HTML references are not Windows Alt codes. No verified numeric-keypad Alt codes are listed for these letters. Use Character Map or Word’s Alt + X method instead.

Questions & troubleshooting
Which direction does the accent in é point?
The acute in é rises toward the right; the grave in è slopes down toward the right. Ê uses a circumflex and ë uses two dots. Each is a distinct character.
Why is my e accent missing from the keyboard menu?
Available variants depend on your keyboard language and app. Copy the required lowercase or uppercase letter above. On Windows, Character Map is another option; on Mac, try Character Viewer.
Why did copying fail?
Your browser may block clipboard access. If the copy button offers a manual field, select its contents and use your device’s Copy command. The grids copy complete letters; Copy all joins the displayed variants without spaces.
